The Midnight’s Days Of Thunder has to be one of my favourite EPs this year. It features 2 tracks, which although extremely are the same couldn’t be more different than one another. Sounds strange doesn’t it? Read on.
After their success with WeMoveForward, The Midnight released their second single from their album, Days of Thunder, a track by the same name.
Days Of Thunder (Original Mix)
The title track from The Midnight’s album, Days Of Thunder is a tribute to the 80’s style of music. Until I hadn’t seen the official video, the song, in my opinion, could have been a soundtrack for a hit 80’s TV drama that features a rebellious protagonist (David Hasselhoff, maybe) who fights bad guys and rides a bike. The song has all the right elements, from the drums to the sax. Oh my god, the sax freaking awesome (courtesy Thomas Edinger)!!! The sax solo, which like any good song from the 80’s, eventually fades out. Ah, nostalgia!
Lyrics
Love is a setting sun
Is a smoking gun
Is a 4 letter word
I hope it hurts
Love is a fatal flaw
Is a broken jaw
Is a burning bridge
Move your hips
And the ghost of the boulevard
Littered with lonely hearts
The city like a graveyard
Once was a postcard
When you lose your wonder
And you can’t remember
When we were…
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of…
Love was a dream to have
Was a kingsize bed
Was an escape plan
Was an open hand
Now it’s a dog from hell
It’s a dream you sell
It’s an epitaph
It’s photograph
And the ghost of the boulevard
Littered with lonely hearts
The city like a graveyard
Once was a postcard
When you lose your wonder
And you can’t remember
When we were…
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of…
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of…
The video sort of destroys my impression of the song. I do love how it’s stayed true to it’s 80’s style. But in my head, the imagery/video for this song is very, very different. I am not saying the video is bad, it’s just that it lacks that punch, that pizzazz which makes the song so damn energetic!
If you liked the song, especially the saxophone solo, I’d highly recommend this video from the man behind the solo.
Days Of Thunder (Proff presents Soultorque Remix)
The second track on the Days Of Thunder EP is remixed by one of my favourite producer/DJs, Proff. I’ve been a huge fan of the Russian producer and in fact two of my albums, Night Lights & Music That Makes Me 🙂, are heavily influenced by his remixes and works. Recently, Proff’s been experimenting with drum and bass under his alias “Soultorque“. And has he produced some fantastic tracks under this new alias.
Soultorque
I’ve never been a fan of drum and bass, until I heard what Proff’s been churning out under his Soultorque alias. I’m really digging the vibes for the Days Of Thunder remix and this other one called “Pole“.
